Sapna Singh

Irvine, CA

I wanted to try the face oil as I have combination skin. The face oil goes on top of my night cream. It doesn’t make me feel greasy and goes on smooth. My skin feels soft, very refreshed feeling in the morning...this is my new favorite!

Our Story

I grew up in India where, infants are massaged with mustard, coconut, olive, or another natural oil right from birth till they are toddlers. The thought process is that this daily oil massage makes their skin better and bones and muscles strong. Even regularly, people apply oil-water emulsions after a bath in India. I, myself, did not grow up with the body lotion concept. My family had an oil-water emulsion in the bathroom too. So using oil for moisturization comes easily to me. I also have the motto that if you can eat something, you can apply it externally to the body too! Not just for the body, I always did oil therapy to my hair, religiously every week, result, beautiful, black, long hair. I believe applying natural oils to your body, hair, face provides better moisturization and incites no chemical reaction.

Based on this belief I started Atima’s Organicals, where I make my own natural hair oil blend, hair color/pack, face oils, face wash, face scrub, face packs, lip balms, and lotion bars. I believe in staying closer to nature, thus using flowers, fruits, and clay as my base materials and natural oil as my base medium to make my products. I have a small organic garden and I used my garden produce for my very first products.

Atima’s Organicals is a name that was suggested by a dear friend and it captures the concept very well. My products are all-natural, and most of the products are from organic sources. My friends love them, and I am sure you will enjoy these products too.

Why Natural Oils?

When we think of natural oils, the first thing that comes to mind is cooking. The very thought of using cooking oil to moisturize the face and body seems weird. But the fact is that for centuries human beings have used oils for moisturizing. Even today, most of the body cremes, face cremes have a high percentage of mineral oil and a certain percentage of natural oils. The reason the cosmetic industry inclines towards mineral oil are that it is cheaper as it is a byproduct of oil refineries, and it is considered inert and stable to human skin. Natural oils, sometimes, could result in allergic reactions. Little did we know that mineral oil, may be inert to the human body, but still can contain carcinogenic properties. There have been growing concerns and regulations towards mineral oil used in the cosmetic industry.

Its easy to discover if one has an allergic reaction to a natural oil and replace that one with another. At least you are not putting carcinogenic products on your body. Also, contrary to everyone’s belief, putting a few drops of oil is better for the skin even for the oily skin type. What you are doing is tricking your skin cells to not release sebum/oil to create a barrier. Oils protect your skin. They are lipophilic, they can penetrate deep into the skin, trapping water and other moisturizing goodness in, while keeping toxins and other bad stuff out. Some oils also help to fortify and strengthen our natural skin barrier.
